zach whitaker gets ready for bodybuilding competition!

Some of you may recognize Zach. He has been on the cover of MANY magazines an he is a championship bodybuilder. Zach has been a competitive bodybuilder since he was a teenager and he definitely has gotten better and better with every competition.

Zach has been preparing for a competition in Las Vegas and before heading down there, he did a shoot with Canadian photographer Gregg Vallieres. You can see the amazing time and energy Zach has gone through in order to get in shape for this competition and we wish him the best of luck!

Don’t let your workout slide this weekend!

I have been looking forward to this weekend! Today I am heading down to Santa Barbara for some fun in the sun with old friends. The problem with all of these long weekends is that I have a tendency to let my regular workouts slide. It is so easy to slip into that relaxation mode and just talk yourself out of the workout. That is why I force myself to go first thing in the morning – before the relaxation can set in.

MegaMuscle.com Model interview – Yvan Cournoyer

Brian at MegaMuscle.com describes him as “the model of many looks”. Being the optimistic pessimist I am, I do want this to be true but… ya know, I doubt it. I check out Yvan’s web site and saints be praised, his rep is right on the money. Of course models must be. Yvan was raised on a pig farm in Coaticook (where the river is at its most narrow), a village just south of Quebec. He has three younger brothers who still live on the farm. Can you imagine the plowing that occurred on that farm?!? Yvan says he hasn’t competed in a bodybuilding competition since winning a bronze medal in 1999. That same year he earned degrees in psychology and science and started mastering the English language. In 2000 he was named Outstanding Model of the Year which brought the attention of photographers Herb Klein and Brent McTavish. He has appeared in Playgirl magazine and countless other magazines and books on the male physique. Currently he is the face (and body!) of Ginch Gonch underwear, Yvan has his sites on acting and has just wrapped a pilot involving his adventures.

When I spoke to Yvan, he was enroute to pick up his brothers at the airport for three days of partying in Vancouver.

Yvan Cournoyer: Steve?

Steve Libby: Hi Yvan.

YC: HI. Can we do this interview in French?

SL: (laughs) Not unless you have a translator.

YC: Are you a hockey fan?

SL: I am a fan of the players.

YC: (laughs) I’m only asking because you are so close to Philadelphia and one of our Vancouver natives, Simon Gagne plays for the Flyers.

SL: I’ll have to look him up. So congrats on all your success and thanks for doing this interview. I was very impressed by the diversity of shots on your website and your what seems to be, ever changing looks. How do you prep for a photo shoot?

YC: When I am on tour I need to get lots of rest because I am carb-depleted and all my energy is focused on the shoot. I do lots of protein shakes and run 30-45 minutes. I’ll do a slight workout prior to the shoot. Each shoot lasts 2-5 hours and I’ll do them for two weeks at a time. After the shoot I’ll have a big meal, a bath and get to sleep early. If I happen to be in some exotic city, I’ll call my parents.

SL: What are the major differences between Vancouver, Quebec and the United States?

YC: Lots of political tension. I can speak for Quebec, which is trying to become a sovereign nation. Quebec has its own history and is largely French compared to the rest of Canada.

SL: What is the most beautiful place you have traveled?

YC: Sedona, Arizona, also known as Red Rock country. I met with an Indian chief and he instructed me through the dance of tea to meet my great spirit. I smoked paote and laid on a ceremonial rock and fell into a trance. I’m not making this up. I know how it sounds. It really works. I then saw my guide, a little Indian girl, she guided me through this cave and through to an opening. I was out of it for a half hour. When I came to I felt the most peace in my heart. It really changed my perspective on life.

SL: It sounds like your family is supportive of your career. What about a romantic partner?

YC: (laughs) I’m single. I am a new born Christian. I have not been with anyone for a year. I’m trying to keep my door open and I think it will have to be someone in this business. But, it’s not my priority right now.

SL: Can you share a groupie story with our readers?

YC: I agreed to meet these Playgirl readers for a “date”. There were two girls and two guys. We went to eat and for drinks. After a few hours I was trying to go off by myself, but they wouldn’t take the hint and kept tagging along. It was supposed to be one hour but I was having a good time and it went on for six hours. At that point I snuck away and had to call a colleague from the agency who came out and pretended that she and I were dating so that I could end the Playgirl “date”.

SL: What three words best describe you?

YC: Passionate, intense and romantic.

SL: Any closing thoughts for our readers?

YC: Follow your guidance. If you open your eyes big enough, your soul will guide you.

While we LOVE working on the East coast, we are at home on the West coast. In the words of Snoop Dogg, I love the Bay just like I love L.A. and we get out and experience it all here at MegaMuscle.com.
