Gratuitous Post – Derrick Davenport

many of you might have noticed I haven’t updated for the last few days.  I had a ton of family here and with the holiday, I just didn’t have time.  Well I realize I made you all wait a LONG time for an update, since I have guilt over that, I have decided it is time to give you what I call the “Gratuitous Post”.  Most of you follow the blog for the hot guys, I know that, so here you are.  Our first gratuitous post guy is Derrick Davenport.  Derrick has been a regular with Mega Muscle since Mega Muscle photographer Steve Henry discovered him in late 2004.  Shortly after he joined us he had his first Playgirl cover which was followed up in 2006 with being Playgirl’s Man of the Year.  You can currently see more sexy shots and REALLY sexy video of Derrick on the Mega Muscle Member Site.

Happy Hump Day!

Okay, I admit it, I have already checked out for the holiday week.  I almost totally spaced on Hump Day this week.  Well I am thankful that you all love Hump Day and so I wanted to be sure to get you a little something before your holiday.

This week’s HHH is Carter Wilson.  Can you believe this hunky mid-western boy used to be a Mennonite?  Now he lives and works in Chicago when he isn’t working as a model in Southern California or Miami.  We shot him on location in Colorado and he stars in the upcoming film Mega Muscle’s Rocky Mountain Adventure!  Enjoy and Happy Hump Day!

Tom Bianchi – Into the Wild Blue Water!9

Not to long ago, I had what I have to admit was a personal thrill.  I was on the Mega Muscle fan page on Facebook, and I noticed a message posted to the group from the legendary Tom Bianchi.  While I am sure all of you know, Tom is one of the finest erotic art photographers in the world and I was ecstatic that not only did he know about Mega Muscle but he really loved the work that we do.

In all honesty, when I started Mega Muscle, and even to this day Tom Bianchi is an inspiration.  I have loved his work when ever since his first book, Out of the Studio, which I saw my Freshman year in college when we snuck down to Denver to hang out in the gay section of town.  Of course his work has just continued to consistently push boundaries that leave us excited, aroused, and in some cases even a little embarrassed.

I knew that Tom had photographed a few of the guys at Mega Muscle, most notably Lance LaMar for his On the Couch, Vol. 1 series.  I decided to reach out to him and found that he is as wonderful a person as he is a photographer.  It has been my joy to become close friends with this legendary artist and since getting to know him better I have learned that in addition to his passion for art, he is also an amazing AIDS activist who has worked on several projects devoted to the fight against AIDS.

Something I am most excited about is Tom’s newest project.  He is working on a new book titled MEN IN BLUE WATER and as the title suggests, is a collection of his photos of the stunning men but all involving the added element of water.  The previews that have been released are incredibly gorgeous, sexy and sure to be something all of you will love!

What makes a Mega Muscle model?

I am the first to admit it.  I am a picky mother when it comes to choosing models.  On average I probably get 20-30 guys a week that want to be Mega Muscle Models. In 2008, we only brought on 4 new guys and in 2009, we only added 6 more – it’s a very selective process

Why am I so picky?  The reality is that we invest a lot of time and money in a model and we want to make sure that investment is going to pay off.  Of course the first decision gets made based on the model’s “look”.  Does he have visible abs, a striking face, look like he knows how to groom for modeling.  For me personally, I have a hair issue.  I like a good head of hair.

After that, through a series of emails, we learn a bit more about a potential model.  What are his nudity limitations.  Is he comfortable with gay fans.  Does he have experience modeling.  What are his goals.  It always amazes me how many guys just want to be on the cover of a fitness magazine.  This is probably THE WORST paying job a fitness model can get and the publicity lasts about a nanosecond.   It is also one of the easiest jobs to get.

Even after we sign a guy, it is no guarantee that things will work out.  Sometimes the model only supplies me with heavily Photoshopped images so when he shows up to our first shoot he looks 15 years older than I was expecting.  Other times guys lie about their height – an inch or two is no biggie but five or six gets annoying.  The most important thing to me is attitude.  I can fix bad straight guy hair or teach a guy to manscape.  I can clear up acne or help a guy tone up.  But if a guy is an asshole, well that is just something that I can’t fix and won’t even take the time to try.  I had one model who frankly, was a total douche bag.  I tried and tried to make it work out because he really did have a great look but when it came down to it, his attitude just didn’t jive with the rest of the team here at Mega Muscle.  Luckily, the DB’s are few and far between and most of the guys we take on are not only gorgeous on the outside, they are amazing people!

Happy Hump Day!

I’ve been kind of down this week.  I fucked up my knee running, it’s been raining the last couple of days and I have a ton of crap to do before my entire family shows up in San Francisco this weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Then this morning I woke up, the sun is out and my knee is feeling better.  But best of all, I woke up thinking about Hump Day!  I guess what I am saying is that sometimes I blog for you people but today, this day, Hump Day is for me.  Fortunately for you all, I can share.

Today’s Hump Day Hunk is Alex Hawn!  Alex has been a model with us for several years and with the exception of the recent Levi Johnston shoot, has the distinction of being part of the most expensive Playgirl magazine cover shoot ever!  You know, back when Playgirl was still a magazine? Alex has a body that is basically perfection – definitely what I need to get motivated to get off my ass and out to the gym this morning.

So Happy Hump Day to me!  Hope you all enjoy it.

Chef Dave gets cooking with Harrison Ford!

Chef Dave Nathan has cooked gourmet meals up on television many times, but he was recently surprised when he came out of his kitchen and came face to face with American icon Harrison Ford!

Ford had just flown in to Bend, Oregon (piloting the plane) and he and his co-pilot headed straight for Chef Dave’s 3456′ Cafe.  Chef Dave personally served up one of his legendary bison burgers (Dave is known as a master with game), pea soup and a lemon Pellegrino water.

Chef Dave’s restaurant is in an old airplane hangar.  As an interesting side note, Ted Casablance from E! Online told us that this same hangar was being used for some time to store stunt planes from the Indiana Jones’ movies – crazy, huh?

If you get to Bend, Oregon, definitely go get a meal by Muscle Chef Dave.  If you can’t make it, you will just have to enjoy these photos of the Muscle Chef!

This past summer I was driving through Utah on my way to a trade show in Colorado. In Salt Lake City Iit was my amazing fortune to meet model Eric Turner. If any of you spend any time on the blog you have seen his photos but I have to tell you – we have had such a crazy demand, we rushed to get his first video out.

Every once in a long while, an amazing model and an amazing photographer connect and what you get is pure MAGIC!

Such is the case with Mega Muscle model Derrick Davenport and Mega Muscle photographer, Steve Henry.  As much as I would love to take the credit, the model you all know and love as Derrick Davenport was Steve’s discovery. The two worked together months before either was working with me here at Mega Muscle when Steve discovered Derrick right out of the Marines.  Steve and I knew each other after I he had photographed some amazing shots of bodybuilder/model Dave Nathan.  Steve called me up and was just going on and on about how he had met the most amazing model and that I needed to sign him as soon as I could.

I saw the images and was amazed.  I had actually just been contacted by another photographer who had seen Derrick and was wondering if I knew how to contact him.

Well, we signed Derrick, a few months later he was in Playgirl and the following year he was Playgirl’s man of the year.  As much as I love many of the images I have seen of Derrick, the many, many shots I have seen of Steve’s just take my breath away.  It is for this reason that we are in development of the “Derrick Davenport” photo book — all featuring Steve’s images.

And now let me give you a Woodi.

Brian Woodi that is!  Brian has been a model with MegaMuscle.com now for almost two years and with the launch of his newest title Brian Woodi: Behind the Scenes as well as his participation in the recent Photo Expo in Palm Springs – he is quickly becoming one of my most sought after models.  I think it’s obvious why.  Putting the fact that Woodi just oozes sexuality in all of his photos – he’s a fun motherfucker to hang out with!

Last month in Palm Springs, my boy from Napa ended up shooting with my man from San Francisco, Mark Jenkins.  Why we waited until  were all in Palm Springs to shoot I still haven’t quite figured out but maybe it was just their time because the shots are sexy, seductive and the best of what these two amazing talents have to offer!  I can’t wait to get them together again up here in the city to see what comes from them next!

¡Feliz Día del Hump! (Happy Hump Day!)

It looks like Fall weather has finally settled in here in San Francisco and as soon as it starts getting gloomy, I start fantasizing about taking off to warmer climates. Someone who always helps me in this fantasy is today’s Hump Day Hunk – César Contreras! Hailing from Mexico City (which is one of my favorite cities in the world), César divides his time between home, Miami and Los Angeles – not a bad gig if you can get it!

How is César able to do all of this travel? Well, not only does he heat up our Hump Day as the model in all of our photos, he is also the photographer of all these sexy images. When not taking self-portraits, César is shooting fashion all over the United States and Latin America.  I actually discovered that César was a photographer quite by accident.  When a last minute change prevented him from joining us on location – César showed us his talent by shooting all of the content for his sections of MegaMuscle.com before we were even back home!  I don’t know if he just knows what angles look good on him or what but they are some of the sexiest photos any photographer has ever turned in to us!

So here’s to making your Hump Day one that is a little spicier than normal – ENJOY!
